The Shot.

The Final Four

So it all comes down to this Kentucky vs Louisville and Ohio vs Kansas the Final Four. For me i'm taking Kentucky over Louisville and Ohio over Kansas and this is why. Kentucky is so good, so athletic, and they commit on defense plus on offense they are way more than a one trick pony with too many options to cover even if Louisville played with 6 on the court. Now to Ohio State i think this is more of a dog fight more of a get it to the post and let the big guys work. Sullinger is going to be the focal point to this Ohio State team and should be the reason they advance to the championship game. In the two games i think the key to anyone winning is getting the easy shoots as in lay ups and short 10 to 15 foot shots in the past when the Final Four is in a dome the shooting percentage from outside goes way down. So there you have it my quick pick im taking Kentucky and Ohio.

Meet Your Astros - Jordan Schafer

Drafted in the 3rd round of the 05 draft by the Atlanta Braves, Jordan came straight out of high school and that in my opinion didn't help him grow as a player and as an adult. Jordan thrived in the minors but in 08 he was suspended 50 games by MLB for HGH use. He since then seemed to be headed on the right track then in 2011 got traded to the Astros in the Bourne deal all was going good until October of last year when he got busted with marijuana and marijuana peanut butter cups. Since then he has been quoted saying he made bad choices and is willing to work harder than ever to prove his keep. With all that said Schafer is a capable starting center fielder who can hit for power and average as well as having a good jump on the ball and excellent range. His defense is something the Astros will be able to use as there starting pitching will give Schafer plenty of opportunities to run around in the outfield.

Jamie wants Moyer

Jamie Moyer’s comeback at age 49 is probably more passion and just love of the game at this point. He is set to make the Colorado Rockies roster this season with his fastball just around 80 mph and when i say around i really mean rarely over 80. Moyer has been throwing in the big leagues since June of 86 that's one month more than i have been alive! He is truly a freak of nature not because he is big, strong, and can throw, but because hes an average sized pitcher with ok stuff and he still has the will to work hard enough to comeback from a blown out elbow that needed Tommy John surgery. How is this for crazy on January 18, 2012, Moyer signed a minor-league contract like i said earlier with the Rockies a team that did not exist in 1986 when Moyer broke into the league. Most players jersey numbers have a meaning Moyer's jersey number 50 might be the age at which he finally will retire from the game he so truly loves. I for one will follow this story and give you updates on the old man who wants to go out on his own terms.

Lebron IX P.S. "Away".

I know everyone is hype for the "Summit Hornets" dropping this weekend, but the next might be these LB9 'Aways'.  They are dropping on 04/28. These matte black and gold flake, yes gold flake, LB9 are nice. They're reminiscent of Black History Month color ways from years past. The gold flaking may have brought up the original price point of $170U to $250. 0_0

Wandy named opening day starter

Houston manager Brad Mills made it official by giving Wandy Rodriguez his first career Opening Day start when the Astros face the Rockies on April 6 at the Juice Box. Wandy should be the started compared to the other guys in the rotation his .500 record and 3.49 ERA would be great if he were the number 2 or 3 guy in a rotation but no he is the Astros "ace". Hopefully he will settle down and throw how we all know he can just enough to be good but not enough to be great. Good luck Wandy and see you on opening day.

Meet Your Astros - Jose Altuve

Now on to your potential 2nd baseman Jose Altuve. The 21 year old Venezuelan was signed by the Astros in 07 as an armature free agent. Altuve managed 200 hits across three levels last season, fueled largely by an impressive .408/.451/.606 line in the California League. This lead to Altuve getting picked to represent the Houston Astros in the 2011 Allstar Futures Games playing 2nd base for team Americas. Many have said he wont continue to progress and be successful at the major league level at least not like he did in the California League but if he keeps the same work ethic and continues to prove he belongs he will put all those sceptics to rest. Hes a guy who could be better with more time in the biggs and his pros out weigh his cons. This is another good building block in what looks like a puzzle just short of a few superstars to put them back in contention for the future.

Can you lose by winning?

Well as you all know by now Arian Foster beat out Tim Tebow in what was a very close 1st round win by Tebow. Yes Tebow lost the round but now he doesn't have to worry about the Madden curse, well he has god on his side so i guess he wouldn't worry about it anyway. Until 1999 the only person to be on the cover was Madden, then EA Sports decided to put players on the cover and since then the curse had run wild. In 1999 49ers running back Garrison Hearst was on the cover after that he broke his ankle and was out 2 seasons. In 2000 Barry Sanders was on the cover but then he retired (maybe Sanders knew about the curse) so they re released the cover with Green bay running back Dorsey Levens he hurt his knee and was never the same player ever again. 2001 Eddie George widely regarded as the best back in the game the Titans had a strong regular season then in the playoffs George fumbles a pass and the Ravens take it in for a pick 6 and the Titans. (the next season George got hurt and again was never the same. The list gos on and on and i for on hope Arian is not another footnote in the Madden curse. So PLEASE DONT VOTE FOR FOSTER!!!

Meet Your Astros - Chris Snyder.

Today, we are going to get familiar with new Astro's acquisition Chris Snyder. Snyder is a native Houstonian, he was born in Houston and played his high school ball at Spring Woods High School. He also played at the University of Houston. After his junior year at U of H he was drafted by the D-Backs in the second round. Its been a long awaited homecoming for Snyder as he was in the D-Backs organization for nearly a decade. His last two seasons were with the Pirates where he received minimal playing time. The Astros acquired him in free agency this past offseason.

Over the length of his career, when Snyder has been given an opportunity to play for long stints, he shows good production for an everyday catcher. Back in 2007, he played over 100 games and batted .252 with 20 doubles. If given a shot to play consistantly he could be a very serviceable catcher. Baseball-Refernece compares his current stats to former Astro Scott Servais and long time Major Leaguer Ron Karkovice. Not bad company for the home town kid.

Under Armour Signs. . . .

With the back to back monster years Arian Foster has had he was sure to land a deal and I'm guessing Under Armour was the first to make a real push to land one of the best backs in the NFL. On the other side the 21-year-old star fighter Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez has a 39-0-1 record and has proving he is the next big Mexican star in Boxing. This makes a lot of sense for Under Armour and I'm sure it will make even more money sooner than later. The cleat for Foster is going to be the same cleat Cam Newton will wear next season only with the Houston Texans color way. As for Alvarez he will fighter will wear Under Armour trunks and boots in the ring for his May 5 showdown with "Sugar" Shane Mosley.

Magic wins in LA

A deal has been struck between the Dodgers and legendary Laker Magic Johnson's bidding group for the Dodgers and Dodger Stadium for $2 billion, the club announced on Tuesday night. The purchase price is the highest amount ever paid for a North American sports franchise. This may sound like allot to pay for a baseball franchise but it does include the stadium rights and all the local TV revenue generated by the team. This means the team will finally move in a new direction and get out from under the dark cloud of the divorce of the McCourts' and focus more on baseball moves to improve the team. This deal is equivalent to Nolan Ryan with the Rangers as in the ties to the city and a beloved son now taking over the franchise. Maybe now there will be a little Magic in Dodger Stadium.

Meet Your Astros - Brian Bogusevic

As I stated in yesterdays post this is a short introduction to your new look young gun Astros and we continue the list with Brian Bogusevic right field for your Houston Astros. Brian Bogusevic played for Tulane University as an outfielder starting pitcher. Drafted in 2005 by the Astros as a pitcher, Brian Bogusevic has been converted back to an outfielder in 2008. His first season as a pro was not that great only batting .179 with no HR and only 3 RBIs, but with some coaching and hard work got his batting average up to .287 with 4 HR and 14 RBIs. Hes not going to be the Carlos Beltran or Lance Berkman type of hitter that the Astros have had in the past but he will get on base and with some more time in the big leagues he will get better and could hold down the right field spot for a few years. Last season he came on strong and if the Astros do find a better right fielder he can provide as a good DH for the Astros as they move to the AL (seeing as he did hit a walk off grand slam for the Astros as a DH). He does have alot of upside and potential especially since this is only his 2nd full season playing at right field. With that being said good luck to the young man from everyone at From the Gun and go Astros.

My Name is Earl

Earl Boykins got signed an hour before the game and finished with 10 points and 5 assists. These Rockets keep pulling out tough wins and with guard after guard going down we will need more out of the little big man. Dragic left the game late in the over time period with what looks to be a roll of the ankle so Earl your going to have to play and do more to get some wins. Congrats Mr. Boykins and we as Rockets fans hope you got more left in the tank.

Just to give you guys a little break from the sports, here's a Top 40 mix to get you through till you clock out.

Garcia vs Morales in Houston.

The fight itself wasn't particularly exciting it looked like and old fighter trying not to get knocked out before the bell rang and a young fighter who thinks hes really getting the best of a legend. I think Danny Garcia can be good but not now and it will take him losing his belt in the next fight or so to get him to focus more on the fight and not the bright lights. Whether you liked the fight or not go to 2:55 seconds into the video and you will see TV Johnny slap a grill and chain on the winner Danny Garcia. Houston was defiantly in the house. Enjoy.

Meet Your Astros - Jason Castro

With opening day only 11 days away and the Astros having so many new faces i figure its time you the fans meet your Houston Astros. We begin the list with your future full time catcher Jason Castro. I say future full time because he is coming off of ACL surgery which ended his season early last year. He was the 10th overall pick of the 2008 draft and is said to be the astros prized prospect and some one who can hold down the catcher spot for a long time....when healthy. If he is every bit as good as the scouts say he is we may have someone who will help this team be a contender in the next 2 to 3 years. Although he to this point has been very ordinary look for him to hit his stride mid season and turn into the player we hope he can be.

Texans on Thanksgiving

So how does it feel Texans fans going from no prime time games last season to now having a chance to play on Thanksgiving at the Detroit Lions? Well that was more of a rhetorical question of course your happy to even be considered and we will probably get it too seeing as its between the Texans and Colts. This goes to show that Mr. Mcnair, Coach Kubiak, and GM Rick Smith have the Texans headed in the right direction. This off season might not be so bad for the Texans after all.

Happy Birthday J.J. Watt

Saint it aint so

With the 1 year suspension of Sean Peyton and GM Mickey Loomis for the first eight regular-season games is the season lost? On top of that the Saints have to pay out 500,000 to the NFL, but is it really all that bad? Let me explain. Now that the saints save 8 million in salary for Sean Peytons non paid vacation maybe now Tom Benson (owner of the saints) can spend the money to get a deal done with Drew Brees If the Saints lose there head coach, GM, and an assistant this year and don't get a deal done with Drew then i would say this is going to be a long season Saints fans. Drew Brees is admit about getting a deal done and not wanting to play under the franchise tag and i don't blame him the last time he did something like that he blew out his shoulder in San Diego. Now if the Saints get the deal done on the other hand and get a few wins early in the season there fans will rally behind the team as they have done before and make the best of a bad situation. At the end of the day they will probably make the playoffs as a wild card and go out in a blaze of glory, but i do think losing two 2nd round picks will hurt them in the foreseeable future. Lets see how long these Saints keep marching.

Broadway Bow

So Tebow is now a New York Jet. Well Rex i hope your happy not are you loosing your locker room and squashed your current QBs confidence by having a bad season and going after manning but now you add Tebow? You may say well Tebow will help in the locker room and build moral for the team but what about when the team goes lets say 1 and 3 to start the season or even just 2 and 2 then what? You must know that every one of your J-E-T-S fans will be clamoring for TE-BOW TE-BOW to come and rescue the franchise and take you to the promise land (pun intended). These Jets are a mess and i don't expect for them to get much better with or without Tebow so why waste a 4th round pick on him when they could of got DeMeco Ryans for the same thing?? The fact of the matter is he would of been better suited to go to the Jaguars and re energize that franchise, all though I'm glad he didn't because we sure don't want that 4th quarter comeback magic happening to us Texans. Now with all that being said its been one heck of an off season and i cant wait for football season!

Enter Chapman

Well Astros fans the team has yet again shipped off another good player trading outfielder Jason Bourgeois and catcher Humberto Quintero to the Kansas City Royals for minor league lefthander Kevin Chapman and a player to be named. Chapman throws strikes and has plenty of potential and this could be a great way to build up the farm system (which is something we haven't done in a looooong time). I hope the Astros gm makes more moves for the future but more in the next 1 to 2 yrs and not this 3 to 4. I am going to do what i suggest you all do as Astros fans and that is wait and see. See you on opening day!

Goodbye DeMeco

As you might have herd the Texans traded away DeMeco Ryans away for a 4th round pick and a swap in the 3rd round moving up 11 spots. I think it was a trade to get the team younger and free up space to resign D. Brown and C. Barwin next year so its not a bad move at all, but we will miss these big hits and of course his leadership being a team captin. So from all of us Texans fans id like to say thanks for your hard work and we are sad to see you go.

State Of the Texans

After the signing of Chris Meyers I'm sure all my fellow Texans fans had a big sigh of relief. I'm also aware of the gloaming holes in the offensive line with the departure of Winston and Brisel, but what about this next man up mantra the team stuck with all last year? Did you guys forget the job that Rashad Butler did when Brown was gone for the first four games in 2010 and the 13 games since 09 that Caldwell started in not including the games he has come in as a back up? The line will be fine now that Meyers is once again at the center of it all. All the people I talk to that are worried must have forgotten of as Roger Clemens would say "miss remembered" how the Texans got here and that's by building threw the draft. I'm almost certain they will focus on wide receiver, linebacker, nose tackle, and depth on the line for this draft in that order. And a quick note on Kubiak congratulating Elway on landing Peyton it should be more like thank you for taking him from the Titans and keeping Manning in negotiations long enough they lose out on Mario and Meyers. God must be a Texans fan...or at least not a Titans fan.

Peytons Place is a mile high

So now that the Peyton Chase is over Tebow Time has officially started. With Peyton reportedly getting in the neighborhood of 5 years 95 million there just isn't enough room in that town for the both of them. Good move on the part of Elway pursuing Peyton, because he (Peyton) might be the only one who could make the move from Tebow less painful for the hardcore Tebow fans. Now on to the football side of things it was a good move for Peyton because of the good young O line and with the possible addition of Jeff Saturday the transition of the offense would be smooth. Reason number two the defense is going to be even better now that they will be playing with a lead as apposed to coming from behind Miller and Dumervile will pin there ears back and go after the passer all day. This team was one good QB away from making a deep run in the playoffs and now they have one of the best QBs to ever play along with some good offensive weapons a good run game these guys are going to be a tough out in the playoffs.
